WHAT TO BRING - 3 DAY TOURS
What to wear
The Bay of Islands in the far north of New Zealand’s North Island enjoys fantastic weather all year around. Morning and late afternoon temperatures can get cool however and so a warm layer of wool or polar fleece and a light waterproof jacket is a good idea.
Denim clothing is not recommended as it is very heavy and cold if it gets wet and takes a long time to dry. Polypropylene, polar fleece and other quick dry fabrics are best. A life jacket is provided and on most days will be enough to keep you warm but it is a good idea to take a dry change of clothes to change into if needed.
Footwear
Shoes you can walk in easily are also a good idea in case bad weather causes us to land on a beach where walking may be necessary. Heels, jandals, flip flops and scuffs are not suitable footwear. While in the kayak some people prefer to wear shoes to prevent your feet from rubbing against the kayak. Rubber water socks/booties are ideal for this.
Sun protection
In the beautiful Bay of Islands there is a very high risk of sunburn even on a cloudy day. Our burn time can be as low as 10 minutes during summer. Be sure to bring a hat, high factor sunscreen, lip balm and sunglasses.
Day Pack
A small day pack with a plastic liner to ensure all your day requirements stay dry. The day pack will be stored in the hold in the kayak. For important items such as cameras and spare clothes a “dry bag” is a good idea. Please note we can not guarantee to keep electronic equipment dry.
